GR Gerry (CA)

Picture
Gerry (GR founder) digs secondary colors, especially orange, and wants to own an airstream someday. California based, Jersey bred (kawfee anyone?) and responsible for all those flower power pics on the Facebook page, Gerry is an avid flea marketer and digs wearing a hat in the sunshine.

She also enjoys long walks, shorelines, deserts, hikes in places where phone reception is nil, floating, Halloween, mid-century modern design, cars cars cars, poodles, peace, hand tie-dying t-shirts, sushi, and salmon. Owns at least 100 volumes related to pop culture. At any given time, at least five of those are strewn about her office; many are well thumbed, curled at the edges; others have corners missing. Gerry appreciates most music and has a huge collection of 45's, LPs and CDs and favors mid to late 60's, country, reggae, and alternative rock. She listens to The Left Banke on the ipod and loves to sing in the car. Start date: June 30, 2010

GR Paul (NH)

Picture
Paul, our trivia sage, is an old folkie, but loves all kinds of music, especially the 60's. Based in the Mountains of New Hampshire, he's a self professed trivia buff and boasts a small library of books on the music and culture of the baby boom generation, and owns nearly every edition of Trivial Pursuit. Also collects sit-com DVDs and M & M Memorabilia; blue is cool! Dreams of finishing restoration of his old Victorian home; the one in the photo is the dream! But with the way the collections are expanding will probably have to add onto the existing home first!

Paul hangs out with his Maine Coon Cat named Arlo and watches football on Sunday afternoons as he tries to convince his fingers to remember a few chords on the 12 string. Married to the same woman for 40+ years and wouldn't have it any other way. Has been very active in local community theater as a director and actor; was lucky to play a number of great roles like Oscar Madison in "the Odd Couple" and Lou Costello in the famous "Who's on First" routine. Paul has also written a number of murder mystery dinner theater shows where the audience participates, all mostly tongue in cheek.Start date: September 7, 2010

GR Joe (NY)

Picture
Joe is an old hippie who loves music, almost all music. It can be rock and roll, folk-rock, Motown, Stax-Volt, seventies soul, Pop, or pioneer rock like Buddy Holly, Elvis or Chuck Berry. The Beatles are the toppermost of the poppermost as a group, and their solo work ain’t half bad either. Joe's wall of CDs contains about 2,500 silver discs and his iPod has 20,000 songs on it, from the 1940’s thru 1990. Rap and hip-hop ended his interest in keeping current, although Adele has caught his ear recently.

Joe is a master mixer, starting with cassettes 35 years ago, moving up to DAT 20 years ago, MiniDisc after that, and iPod playlists now. He loves old TV starting with The Honeymooners, through Dick Van Dyke, MTM, All In The Family, Happy Days (thru 1977), Newhart, and Seinfeld. Joe is a self-employed Land Surveyor who likes the woods and nature and loves his wife, three sons, three daughters-in-law, three grandsons (including twins) and one princess granddaughter. He has a cat named Cosmo Kramer and seven fishes in the pond in the back yard.  Start date: July 1, 2011, took a little time off from June 30, 2013 to August 21, 2013 and is in full GRoove with us!
Sadly we lost Joe on March 18, 2017 ...please look on our main site, Groovy Reflections Radio where we will have a page just for Joe very soon!

GR Guy (CA)

Picture
_"I may have never become a rock and roll fanatic had the Beatles never surfaced. I'm still astonished by how quickly the musical landscape changed in such a short time, and how quickly it changed me. Most afternoons if I wasn't glued to my Silvertone radio, I was haunting the neighborhood grocery store chugging Orange Crush and perusing rock magazines. I mean, I had to find out as much as I could about the Stones, Dylan and many other artists.

Like my father and grandfather before me, I am a lifelong California resident--most of it in Fresno. And no, I don't know which station Ted Baxter got his start. But I managed to earn two college degrees--an AA from Fresno City College in 1975 and a BA in Journalism from Cal State University Fresno in 1996. At various stages I've been a dishwasher, self-serve gas station attendant, cab driver, tax examiner and gardener.

Besides '60s rock I'm also a big fan of all jazz, especially pre-1960, classical (especially Bach and Mozart), very early blues, bluegrass and cajun style. Other interests include reading, both fiction and non, walking, classic sitcoms, movies and websurfing.
I married Lynda August 2008 and that was one of the smartest decisions I ever made. She and I share numerous interests and viewpoints, and we spend as much time together as possible. Glad to be here!" Start date: December 5, 2011

GR Paul E. (VA)

Picture
Memphis born and bred, Paul E. boasts that he has never lost at Trivial Pursuit and is also known to be competitive at Risk and Othello. He is a big fan of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. He is also a self-described “collector of many things” including anything Batman, Darth Vader, Star Trek, and Hot Wheels.

When not watching favorite shows such as Miami Vice, Star Trek (the one with Shatner and Nimoy), Starsky & Hutch, Doctor Who, and Criminal Minds, Paul may be reading one of the 3,000 books (not on a Kindle but real books folks) in his collection. It could be historical, or he may be rereading The Count of Monte Cristo.

When growing up, Paul wanted to be an astronaut. He claims that at one time he could name every astronaut who went into space in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. It’s clear that he brings to Groovy Reflections a wide range of interests! Start date: June 25, 2013.

GR Pete (MI) Honorary Member

Picture
Pete hails from Norway, Michigan; Rock and Roll has always been in his blood!

A milestone in Pete's life came on his 8th birthday when he got a Mickey Mouse record player and a stack of old 45's from his sister. He's been hooked on rock music, especially the Beatles and Elvis, ever since!!  It was this initial love of solid gold vinyl that lead Pete into a career as a radio announcer.

Pop culture has always been a big part of Pete's life as well.  His top five TV shows of all time are: Andy Griffith, All In The Family, M*A*S*H, WKRP in Cincinnati and Frasier. When Trivial Pursuit was the big game of the 80's, trivia night parties often consisted of Pete against whomever else was at the party. It was "Pete against the world," and he usually won. Now If he could only become a contestant on "Jeopardy" or "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!!" Start date: August 17, 2011.  (Note: Sadly, we lost Pete on January 26, 2013. He will always be a member of our team! Groovy Reflections Radio is dedicated to Pete: Please visit his page here.
